Inspiration

Working as software engineers in government and defense contracting, we've experienced firsthand the complexity and critical importance of regulatory compliance in these sectors. The manual processes for ensuring compliance, from conducting employee interviews to tracking regulatory changes, are time-consuming, error-prone, and often incomplete. We recognized that compliance isn't just about meeting minimum regulatory requirements; it's about understanding and implementing industry best practices that ensure operational excellence and risk mitigation.

This inspired us to leverage AI's ability to scrape, consolidate, and analyze vast amounts of regulatory data and best practices from across industries. ComplyAI emerged from our desire to transform compliance from a reactive, manual burden into a proactive, intelligent system that empowers organizations to maintain regulatory excellence while focusing on their core mission-critical work.

What it does

ComplyAI is an assistant that helps companies determine if they are compliant with industry standards and risk management. It features a persistent user profile, a chat interface with an AI assistant, and an AI audit checklist.

How we built it

We built this app using React, Next.js, and TypeScript frontend and a JavaScript backend. The application will query an AI via HTTP API for generate content on our platform.

Challenges we ran into

Although we both have traditional experience with HTML/CSS and basic web development, it was both of our first times using React and JavaScript. Learning how to incorporate both into a functional app was a challenge in itself. Another challenge was incorporating the speech-to-text translator due to the ever-changing context the AI needed to formulate the correct answer; this was our first time using any type of AI APIs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we finished as much as we did! While doing this project, we also attended events, saw friends, and spent time outside of coding.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the process of delivering an app on a time crunch. We dedicated time to brainstorming ideas, planning out the plan-of-action for execution, and new frameworks we had never worked with before.

What's next for ComplyAI

There are a couple of features we didn't get to that we would love to be a part of ComplyAI:

  • Documented list of best practices for the industry standards
  • Extended Audits / Reports
  • See past history
  • Improving the UI
