Inspiration
Comply AI was inspired by the inefficiencies housing developer's experienced in the construction industry, where prolonged back-and-forth with municipalities created bottlenecks in getting building designs approved. The goal was to leverage tech to streamline and speed up the permitting process.
What it does
Comply AI accelerates the permitting process for construction projects by automatically checking building plans against the relevant local codes, flagging issues for developers, designers, and city officials, and providing instant guidance and recommendations on compliance questions.
How we built it
We built Comply AI with a focus on document analysis and code matching, developing an interface for both designers and city officials. It leverages LLMs and a set of local municipality building code documents as a knowledge base, to validate compliance of architectural diagrams.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was ensuring the app’s accuracy in identifying code violations across multiple regions. Another was designing a user-friendly interface for both developers and city officials to streamline their workflows. We want to balance the needs of the housing developer and city hall.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of developing an AI that can accurately review building plans and cut permitting cycles which normally takes months, wasting money in empty lots. Using comply.ai, it now takes seconds to get feedback on compliance for designs.
What we learned
We learned that automating code compliance checks requires deep domain expertise and an understanding of municipal workflows to create a tool that is truly valuable to both builders and city officials.
What's next for Comply AI
We plan to expand our team and continue refining Comply AI, eventually deploying it in cities with high construction demand, and collaborating with municipalities to further optimize the permitting process.
