ComplAI: Autonomous Regulatory Compliance Agent

Inspiration

I witnessed too many Indian startups and innovators struggle with the overwhelming complexity of navigating multi-jurisdictional regulations. Brilliant ideas were being delayed or abandoned because founders spent months trying to understand compliance requirements across different ministries and regulatory bodies. This inspired me to build an AI agent that could automate regulatory expertise and help entrepreneurs focus on innovation rather than legal paperwork.

What it does

ComplAI is an autonomous regulatory compliance agent that analyzes business ideas and provides comprehensive compliance reports. Users describe their business concept in natural language, and ComplAI identifies relevant regulations, flags potential conflicts between different laws, highlights compliance requirements, and suggests actionable steps. It continuously monitors regulatory updates and alerts users about changes affecting their business.

How I built it

• Core AI: IBM Granite series models for natural language processing and regulatory analysis
• Agent Framework: IBM Agent Development Kit (ADK) for orchestrating complex multi-step workflows
• Data Processing: Custom tools for scraping and parsing government documents from various sources
• Knowledge System: Graph-based architecture connecting regulations across different domains
• Reasoning Engine: Hybrid system combining semantic search with regulatory pattern recognition

Challenges I ran into

• Data heterogeneity: Government documents came in inconsistent formats requiring extensive preprocessing
• Accuracy requirements: Ensuring zero hallucination in legal analysis was critically important
• Multi-domain synthesis: Connecting regulations across different ministries and jurisdictions
