Inspiration

We have utilized past research and discoveries done by scientists to discover a way to deplete plastic waste in an everyday household which normally produces numerous amounts of plastic waste each year. Plastic waste contributes to climate change in huge ways and we, as young people, can utilize our imagination and knowledge to find ways to make small changes that will contribute to the overall solution.

What it does

Our product utilizes plastic-eating bacteria to deplete plastic waste in a small, controlled environment without allowing the bacteria to escape and harm other plastic products. This product comes with an app to track your plastic waste depletion and have point values to get consumers interested in the idea of recycling.

How we built it

We came up with a blueprint with measurements of the ComPlastic trash can with various parts and sensors to keep the environment within controlled for optimal bacteria catabolism.

Challenges we ran into

Keeping the bacteria "happy" with their ideal temperature and pH and ways to drive the consumer to purchase this product and be excited to deplete their plastic waste.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of being able to take past discoveries and coming up with a solution and a product that harnesses this information that a normal household can buy and utilize.

What we learned

We learned that small steps in reversing and preventing climate change can make a huge impact on the environment. As young people, we are inheriting this world and with the knowledge and technology we have, we must do everything in our power to come up with ways to help.

What's next for Complastic

ComPlastic plans to move to a larger scale, producing our product larger and placing it in locations that usually produce large amounts of plastic waste such as theme parks, sports arenas, and schools.
