Inspiration
The project was inspired by the trending game Among Us. While it doesn't involve any social deduction, it does take their elements of completing "tasks" or objectives.
What it does
It allows people to have fun at home and get work done at the same time. There is a friendly competitive aspect to it, because players aren't intended to claim a completed objective until they physically finish it.
How we built it
It was built by performing changes on repl.it. When it was finished, we deployed it onto our website.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to get the backend of the code to work. Our understanding of javascript, css, and html was enough to get a lot of the work done, but we started hitting a lot of roadblocks at the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to finally see our website work the way it was intended was really satisfying. The game seems like a really fun way to spend time with family too.
What I learned
There was a lot of troubleshooting and problem solving when it came to the backend. It was a really rigorous and steep hill to climb, but for our first hackathon, I'm really satisfied how it turned out.
What's next for Competitive Home Objectives
I want to update the project so that each objective gives you the corresponding points for the tasks completed. It isn't very balanced as people can just pick all the simple tasks like "Do 10 Pushups" and gain easy points.
