Inspiration
We were inspired by our own lack of knowledge with finance and what would be the most fun and interesting way to learn about it.
What it does
It's a platform that allows the user to make a profile on the website. They can take a quiz to figure out what they want to learn about in particular, and the information provided will be personalized to them. They can track their progress and will receive action items according to what they're interested in. There's also a browser extension that allows you to adjust the reading level and vocabulary on financial documents, making them easier to read.
How I built it
We used HTML, CSS, Swift, and Javascript to build the website, app, and extension.
Challenges I ran into
We met a lot of bugs linking the Javascript with the HTML and CSS. Also, since we're all high school students who don't know much about finance, we initially had trouble thinking of an idea and figuring out which challenge to focus on.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to overcome a lot of our bugs and get a final website out!
What I learned
I learned a lot about coding and working with others!
What's next for Compass by Guardian
Our next goals are to make it part of schools' curriculums so that all students will have access to it from the student career services.
