Inspiration

Life often distracts us from the people we love, our family, our friends... That's why we made Ketchup! - To encourage us to 'catch up' (pun-intended) and have a more flavorful life.

What it does

Ketchup! helps remind you to hang out with people you haven't seen in a while. It sends you weekly suggestions and provides easy to send templates.

How we built it

Ketchup! Was built with python using the Flask framework. We made use of AI assistants to help our workflow stay consistent, so we had time to bounce ideas off each other.

Challenges we ran into

It took us 4 hours to determine our project idea... Endless possibilities really do complicate things! Once we settled, naming this digital infant was as hard as a human one. Ketchup! really balanced well between clarity and clever-ness. Coding the app was a whole other can of worms with our spaghetti code. This was also the first time for some of our group to be using these frameworks and languages, so there was a steep learning curve and struggles with keeping up on the work. We ended up needing to clone the private github repository into a public one for submission. We were not able to reach the original owner of our initial one.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

That we got this done! Less than 12 hours in and the urge to quit was more powerful than that of thirst. Okay... maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea.

What we learned

Despite the cliché. its real: Teamwork makes the dream work. We encouraged each other when things were stale and built upon our passions to make a wholistic service. Plus, there's no vibe without folks. The best of friends is made through WAR.

What's next for Ketchup!

We are going to become the next billionaires. Ah, actually no. We're humble... we want to become the next quadrillionaires ;) Okay, in all seriousness, we'll probably use this for our own use and if we're really inclined. More avatar decorations, generative AI for text summarizations, or help with how to start a conversation if someone is has a hard time with social anxiety.
