Inspiration During the pandemic, there were so many people willing to offer help and many people who needed help, but no platform for them to meet.
What it does: Companion connects users who need a hand with tasks such as shoveling snow, picking up groceries and tech support with volunteers thru voice calls.
How we built it: Our team used a combination of web development tools such as HTML, CSS and Javascript. The bootstrap framework and firebase tools were also utilized for UI and backend functionality, respectively.
Challenges we ran into: This was our team's first hackathon, and there were many issues that we resolved together. Coming up with an idea for our app proved to be difficult, going thru 10+ ideas, until finally landing on companion. The other challenge for us was not being able to add all the features to our app with the time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud of coming up with an idea that tackles issues in our community, and completing an app with most of the functionality that was intended from the start.
What we learned: Our team learned lots of backend development elements with Javascript, as well as the difficulty of coming up with an idea with a solid foundation to build a project on.
What's next for Figma Lords: All of our members thoroughly enjoyed this hackathon and are excited to attend many more in the future!
