Inspiration
Our inspiration came from a teammate’s idea: build a platform that helps residents in retirement communities connect more easily.
What it does
Our platform brings neighbors together to learn, connect, and support one another. It includes:
Community Dashboard — forum-style posts and updates.
Events — create gatherings and RSVP in one place.
Marketplace — buy, sell, or negotiate secondhand items (e.g., furniture).
Help Board — request assistance or offer help to neighbors.
Recommendations — share trusted local spots, from barbers to restaurants.
Interactive Map — see nearby events and recommended places at a glance.
How we built it
Frontend: Next.js (React) + Tailwind CSS
Backend/Database/Auth/Storage: Supabase
Challenges we ran into
Time management was our biggest hurdle. We spent too long polishing lower-priority features before completing the MVP, which left some major features rushed under time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a small team, we shipped a functional, feature-rich website within the hackathon timeframe.
What we learned
We gained a clearer understanding of the end-to-end web development process and the numerous moving parts required to deliver a working product. Even without full “industry-grade” polish, building the essentials demanded a lot of coordination and focus.
What's next for CommunityHub
We strayed from our original scope during the sprint. If we continue, we’ll realign with the initial vision (supporting retirement-home communities) now that strict time limits no longer bind us. This would involve refining the feature set to address core needs and iterating based on user feedback.
