Inspiration
As students who are passionate about helping the community and have collected over 300+ volunteer hours, we wanted to create a website to help others gain the same fulfillment we do.
What it does
CommunityConnect helps volunteers connect to organizations that are looking for volunteers at an event. Organizations can input volunteer opportunities and necessary information, like the date, time, place, description, name, and name of the organization of the opportunity. This helps volunteers connect to organizations that need help and also allows organizations to get volunteers to attend events.
How we built it
We used React and Tailwind CSS to create our project. We used multiple React libraries and tailwind websites to help us create an aesthetically pleasing website with increased functionality.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing the method for organizations to upload opportunities was a huge challenge. In the end, we had to use localStorage and other methods in order to get information from one file to another, and the end result is great! However, it only works once and replaces the same opportunity. We plan on fixing this in the future and implementing other methods so that more opportunities can be added.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that despite very little background in React and Tailwind, we were able to create a website that looks good and has some functionalities. With little to no knowledge before the competition, both of us learned a lot of React and Tailwind during the competition.
What we learned
We learned tailwind, react, and most importantly how to tackle challenges while coding a large project in a limited amount of time.
What's next for CommunityConnect
We hope to create user profiles and built in functionalities for registering for opportunities in the future.
