Inspiration

We, as naturally social people, want to become plugged in to our local communities. However, sometimes we have a difficult time finding new things to do, or new groups to be a part of. On the other hand, smaller organizations have a hard time gaining enough attention for their events, or just new members in general. This Android app seeks to solve both problems.

What it does

Ideally, this app would provide a platform for users to find events or opportunities based on their location, as well as organizations to post new events and opportunities. The app would present a scrolling feed of local events on one tab, and all followed events on another tab. Each event would have necessary info, such as time and date, location, and any other relevant links. These events would also be able to be exported to a calendar. For organizations, users would be able to create an organization profile and be able to post new event listings as that organization. Other users would also be able to post as an organization with a proper access code. Organizations would also be able to provide users other access codes for them to gain visibility of their events, if desired. However, we weren't able to complete much within the given time frame.

How we built it

We used Android Studio for all programming, and GitHub Desktop so we could work on different parts of the code at once.

Challenges we ran into

None of us have ever used Android Studio, so we all had to learn it from scratch.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The project built successfully!

What we learned

Besides the basics of Android Studio, we learned a lot about project management and setting goals.

What's next for Community Service Tracker

We hope to work on this project so that it gains its intended functionality.
