Community Innovation Hub by Foundation for Puerto Rico

Inspiration

Jon Broshow is the CEO, Chairman and Founder of Foundation for Puerto Rico. His vision was to create a platform that would allow communities to submit challenges and provide practical solutions to collaborate, share expertise, create solutions that bring about a tangible difference in people's lives.

What it Does

Our project is a game changer. We've combined AI technology with expert volunteer insights to address the most pressing challenges faced by the Puerto Rico's communities.

  • Improve Quality of Life: We're dedicated to presenting innovative, practical solutions that improve the quality of life for residents.

  • Foster Collaboration: The hub is a unique opportunity to combine AI with local interaction from community leaders, experts, businesses owners and NGO's.

  • Harness Power of AI: We built a platform that allows us to create a comprehensive knowledge base from years of research, data analysis, case studies and hands on community involvement. Training a ChatBot that leverages the wealth of our unique data and resources was critical to our projects vision.

How We Built It

  1. AI Technology: Currently we're using a Dialogflow knowledge base and pre determined conversation intents to guide our users throughout the various Challenge Steps. During the Ideation Stage, we use a combination of Dialogflow's knowledgebase matching with ChatGPT for more comprehensive solutions.

  2. Expert Collaboration: Along with AI Solutions, our platform allows Experts, Community Leaders, Business owners and local agencies to get involved in the ideation & solution stages that each Challenge goes through.

  3. Community Input: Ideas and Solutions are voted upon before being assigned to vendors, contractors & other solution providers.

Challenges We Ran Into

Leveraging the power of AI has been a challenge. There are many options and method's for training an LLM and not all options are available when you're a non profit organization with limited funds and resources. We're still in the early stages of training our ChatBot to provide the best possible solutions to our users. Creating modules with a specific purpose and function that can be integrated into a larger platform is a challenge. We're still in the early stages of development and we're excited to see how our project evolves.

Accomplishments that We're Proud of

  • Prepared a robust Knowledge base for our ChatBot
  • API development that integrates ChatGPT to expand upon our unique Knowledgebase
  • Creating Stages for our Challenges that allow users to collaborate from ideation, to solution and implementation.

What We Learned

We've learned that AI can be a huge asset to our organization. We've also learned that there are many ways to leverage AI and that we're only scratching the surface of what's possible.

What's Next

** We believe that the Future is bright for our Community Innovation Hub.** We plan on building upon our API, utilizing vector database technology to expand our knowledgebase. We hope to share our platform as a resource / tool for other non profit organizations, goverment agencies, travel, tourism and other businesses and industries. We hope to create a platform that can provide practical AI solutions to our communities.
