Inspiration
We wanted to find a way to help our community with our programming skills. We got the idea that we should make an app that lets anyone see and volunteer for local businesses around the world.
What it does
We are planning to make an open-source API that lets local companies provide details about volunteer opportunities, and in return, we give our app to people that want to help and make a difference in their community. In the end, it is a win-win.
How we built it
We built this app in C++. We used the standard library and C-style file-i/o in order to read and write to a custom database.
Challenges we ran into
At first, we were unable to find a good idea for our project. Brainstorming was a challenging task.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were able to work together as completely random people from across the state and still have a finished product.
What we learned
We learned that teamwork leads to success and we also learned that we should plan before we actually implement code.
What's next for Community Helper
Now that our app can read from the database, we want to make an API that lets companies automatically update our database with their opportunities.
