About the Project: Community-Focused Job Board
Inspiration
The inspiration for the Community-Focused Job Board came from a challenge faced by many CMU Africa students—finding the right opportunities to showcase their skills and talents. While companies and startups visit CMU Africa every year to find talent, many students struggle to gain visibility, especially in highly competitive platforms like LinkedIn and other freelance apps. This project aims to provide CMU Africa students with a dedicated platform to connect directly with companies that are interested in their unique capabilities, helping students who know they are talented but haven’t yet found the right opportunities.
How I Plan to Build the Project
The platform will be built using Django as the backend framework for managing user profiles, job listings, and student portfolios. The frontend will be designed with React and Flutter to provide an intuitive and clean interface. I plan to integrate AI-driven search features that will help match students’ skills with relevant job opportunities from company partners. Additionally, I will ensure that the database is scalable and secure, protecting students’ personal data and creating a trusted environment.
Anticipated Challenges
Some challenges I foresee include ensuring the platform is both simple and functional. It should be easy for students to use while still providing robust tools for companies to search and find the right talent. Another challenge will be creating a sense of confidence among students to showcase their skills in a more focused environment, as well as addressing concerns around data privacy and security.
