Inspiration

This app was inspired by Eventbrite and how they have shaped the current way events are booked and advertised. My team strives to do the same for community service events in a different way.

What it does

This app has two sides to it: Organizers and Participants. Organizers can create events open to the public and keep track of their statistics of future and past events. Participants can search for events in a particular location or nearby and receive points based on the event and how long they helped out. We are hoping that we can sell the data collected by students to high schools and colleges to satisfy their community service hours requirement.

How we built it

We built the front end using figma.com and did all the wireframes from there. The demo is also based off of figma.com while the back end was all completed using android studios. We allocated 2 members to do front end and 3 members to do the backend side of this application.

Challenges we ran into

1) Stacking XML files to only show part of the google map API was problematic 2) Working on the save event interface on android studios 3) Trying to implement the card view API (was not able to use) 4) Getting the wireframes and the android studios code to be similar

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1) We were able to complete every wireframe we set out to do 2) Added extra features to the final project that wasn't originally planned 3) Finessed the API's into android studios 4) This app was a merge of the ideas that the team brainstormed on the day

What we learned

1) Became more proficient in API use and Android Studios 2) Learned a completely different tool to do mockups and wireframes on (figma.com) 3) Not all issues have to be addressed immediately 4) How to split up work and to actually work and support a team

What's next for CommunitiKat

1) To try and expand the organizer's side of the app 2) Focus on security and login for users 3) Support sponsors where we can be paid to promote specific events over others 4) Allow better integration for schools separate from regular community service organizers
