Inspiration
We were inspired to create CommuniKey after seeing how complex existing translation tools were for seniors, who often struggle with small text and confusing interfaces. Our goal was to bridge language barriers with a tool designed specifically for their ease of use and clarity.
What it does
CommuniKey is a user-friendly translator for seniors, enabling easy real-time translation of text, documents, and images with simple clicks. It also offers text-to-speech functionality for enhanced accessibility.
How we built it
We built CommuniKey as a web application using firebase and Gemini to integrating for core translation and image text extraction. We prioritized large, clear elements and a straightforward navigation for seniors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud of successfully designing a translation tool that seniors find genuinely easy to use, empowering them to overcome language barriers independently. Creating a seamless experience for text, document, and image translation was a significant achievement.
What we learned
We learned the profound importance of empathetic design, where simplicity and clarity for the user are paramount, especially for accessibility-focused tools. Iterative testing with our target audience proved crucial for refining the user experience.
What's next for CommuniKey
Next, we plan to expand language support, develop mobile applications, and enhance voice input/output features for even greater accessibility. We also aim to explore integrations with other communication platforms to broaden its utility.
