Inspiration
We were inspired by Minecraft's ability to connect users through video games
What it does
We aimed to reduce effort required for personal connections to be established and to connect with people they love.
How we built it
We used JS, Node.js for server side applications, Phaser.js as the game engine, Firebase for the database and multiplayer synchronization
Challenges we ran into
We had to switch from using WebSockets to Firebase Realtime Database to handle the multiplayer. It was also our first time building a multiplayer game on this scale.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The art style, our time management and our ability to finish most of what we hoped to do
What we learned
We learnt how it was easier to use dedicated game engines, and using global positioning as opposed to relative positioning
What's next for Commune
We hope to add In-Game Chats, Emotes, Ability to post images to your board, AI Text-to-speech and much more.
