After inputting a zip code/city, this is the screen. There is an AI summary about the location.

Clicking on the side resources, this is what pops up.

Passcom, an AI 24/7 Assistant that will assist those who need resources.

Based on the city, the website will also show UCLink programs nearest to you.
Inspiration
Through my work in UCSD’s Democracy Lab 2.0, I (Leira) became interested in the relationship between environmental burden and access to education. Communities that face higher levels of pollution often also have fewer resources and opportunities.
Tools like CalEnviroScreen help identify these high-impact areas, but they don’t show people where to go for support. If we could somehow combine the resources that people need based on field notes and observation, we'd be able to provide educational resources in areas that need it the most.
What it does
We built CommPass (a play on words that combines communities and a compass)—a platform that connects users to local educational and community resources, while also allowing communities to contribute their own knowledge of resources for spaces that aren't made public on Google or Apple maps. We’re turning data that we have into a one-stop space for people to actually use to see the nearest resources where they live, and even including places where people can view their nearest UCLinks programs.
How we built it
We brainstormed using Google docs, and then writing a script through ChatGPT, to then input into the Loveable website builder. From there, based on Leira's field notes at her local learning center, implemented what the communities needed the most (usually tech and wifi access and libraries).
Challenges we ran into
Understanding HTML. Since all the members in the group have different amounts of experience with HTML, we had to emphasize and teach one another to fully understand what we wanted to create on the website. Trying to figure out how to properly communicate especially when setting up the Github.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Everybody's First Hackathon!! Happy to be working on something that will help many people.
What we learned
There are many communities that need our help not only in San Diego, but even in the northern parts.
What's next for CommPass
For Future Building we'd like to include
- Food Access, and a map of Community Gardens
- Statewide Access rather than just cities in California
Built With
- calenviroscreen
- css
- html
- javascript
- loveable
- react
