Inspiration
What inspired us is the lack of help on classic investing apps like Robinhood to get started on what stocks to invest in. Its only efficiency is being able to help you invest in a company you've decided beforehand.
What it does
Our application recommends users stocks to build their portfolio and has a smart and comprehensive but easy-to-use search function that can return relevant stocks and even categorize them.
Additionally, the user can add his or her own stocks and see the total assets and find more in-depth information about the stocks they and others own.
How we built it
We built it using React for the front end (with Javascript, CSS, and HTML, of course) and Python 3 for the backend with Flask to communicate between the frontend and backend. We implemented our machine learning there.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges are definitely trying to put yourself in the shoes of the user. Trying to think about things that don't already exist.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our search function is pretty accurate given the relatively sparse amount of data and articles.
What we learned
Obviously, we learned more about ourselves as a group and more about the documentation and languages, but also how to put ourselves in the shoes of the user. I think that's really important to have.
What's next for CommonWealth
We definitely have a lot of bugs to fix and a lot more data to gather.
