Inspiration
Having lived with roommates for almost 4 years, we relied on things like whiteboards and group chats for knowing our chore schedules, shopping lists and expenses. We wanted to create a solution that would put everything in one place and make sure that nobody missed a chore.
What it does
The app allows members of a house to add weekly chore schedules, like cleaning, taking out the trash or shoveling the driveway. It also lets users create shared grocery lists, and includes functionality for splitting house expenses. Splitwise integration is planned for a future version of this app.
How we built it
We built it using node.js and JavaScript. It is currently hosted on GitHub apps for the demo.
Challenges we ran into
How to manage multiple households, as well as how to design a university student-friendly fast and streamlined UI.
What's next for Commonplace
To add real user account support, and to port this app natively to iOS and Android, as well as fully build out the functionality and add Splitwise integration.
