Inspiration
We wanted to simplify smart investing choices by focusing on converting financials and metrics of companies into actionable and straightforward investing recommendations while also providing a financial planning platform, all for free.
What it does
We have features like equity research, a risk quiz to personalize recommendations, a general wealth dashboard, and even a portfolio simulation tool to inform the "average Joe" about their investment decisions
How we built it
We used Claude and Cursor to develop most of the code, but we had to brainstorm some preferences and decide which features mattered the most
Challenges we ran into
We had some trouble debugging at multiple points in the process, and there were problems running our site early on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to get a fully functioning site that integrated real market data and had a very user-friendly interface in addition to providing all the aforementioned features effectively
What we learned
We learned about prioritizing our features and providing a real, scalable product that could help the average person make better investment decisions
What's next for CommonCents
We would like to use more metrics to get more detailed and thorough technical analysis and differentiate between short-term and long-term recommendations. Our next steps would also include automating the investing along with the descriptions and rationale of each investment
