Inspiration
We had multiple iterative ideas that eventually became this app. We wanted to make a chatroom for a community feeling. In the spirit of the mental health track, we made the decision to help connect those who want to connect in their struggles and help each other.
What it does
Connect those with mental disorders together in chatrooms.
How we built it
We utilized python as the core of the website to make connections and recommendations. We have html and CSS for the visual with flask as the frontend. Copilot helped fix errors as we progressed.
Challenges we ran into
We initially wanted to add a database as a connection for user data storage and personalized recommendations. After multiple hours of troubleshooting and multiple methods, we decided to scrap the implementation for this prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The recommendation algorithm we implemented to connect users to each other. Also the overall style of the website to promote a welcomed environment.
What we learned
Integration between Front-end and Back-end sides of an application.
What's next for Common Ground
Database integration for users, Social Events within the website, and an AI integration to help assist users to new groups and professional help.
