Inspiration

Being an INTORVERT, it was difficult for me to make friends in college. My college(VIT, Vellore) has around 30,000 students but making friends was a hassle.

In the quest of meeting new people, I ran into peeps who lived in the same neighborhood as mine. Those guys matched my vibe probably because we had many things in common as we grew up in the same neighborhood.

That's when I realized, the HACK to find peeps with a SIMILAR VIBE is to find people having something common with you, in my case being THE SAME NEIGHBOURHOOD.

What it does

Finds people from your college/workspace, having the same city as yours, went to the same school (maybe different branch(location wise)), having same cultural background as yours (e.g Marwaris, Maharashtrians, etc), similar future plans (MBA finance, MTech, Placement, etc) , etc.

How we built it

I used MongoDB and EJS.

Challenges we ran into

I wanted to use react but because of the time constraint I chose EJS. I am a decent web developer, but not a great designer. Hosted it on Heroku but it was not working. (This was because there was an error in my procfile)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My website is functional and works properly.

What we learned

Learnt about MongoDB. (I am more of a Postgres kind of a guy). This was my first time using MongoDb in a hackathon.

What's next for Common Background

  • Making a better design
  • Adding a chat feature using Sockets
  • Make it responsive
