Inspiration
Many goal-tracking applications become overwhelming when users try to manage too many commitments at once. CommitLearn was created to encourage focus, discipline, and intentional learning by enforcing a strict productivity rule: maximum 3 active goals at a time.
What it does
CommitLearn is a web-based goal management application that allows users to register, log in, and manage their personal commitments in a structured environment.
- Strict Active Limit: Users can only have up to 3 active goals at any given time.
- Backlog Management: Additional goals created beyond the limit are automatically stored in a Backlog for later execution.
- User Authentication: Each user has an isolated workspace with clear data privacy and session control.
- Clean Interface: Designed with modern Tailwind CSS and a clean dark theme for enhanced user experience.
How we built it
- Backend: Built using Python and Flask with session-based user authentication.
- Database: SQLite for structured data management, using custom schema architecture.
- Frontend: HTML5 templates with Tailwind CSS for modern, responsive UI design.
- Deployment: Managed version control on GitHub and deployed on Render.
Challenges we faced
- Handling session persistence and user data isolation without relying on mock data.
- Managing database schema setup and migrations during deployment.
- Resolving Git synchronization conflicts and dependency issues (
requirements.txtcleanup) during the deployment setup on Render.
What we learned
- Building clean session-based authentication in Flask.
- Implementing effective database schemas with clear relationships for user-specific data.
- Streamlining modern deployment pipelines using Git and cloud hosting platforms.
What's next for CommitLearn
- Adding progress analytics and milestone tracking for each goal.
- Integrating PostgreSQL for scalable cloud storage.
- Implementing automated streak tracking to reward daily progress.
