Inspiration
Finding reliable tutors is still an unstructured and trust-based process in many communities. Guardians often rely on informal sources like social media or personal recommendations, which can be inefficient and unreliable.
We built CFT (Commission-Free Tuition) to solve this problem by creating a centralized platform where tutors can directly connect with guardians without any commission or middle layer.
What it does
CFT allows tutors to create profiles and allows guardians to find suitable tutors based on their needs. It focuses on making tutor discovery simple, direct, and more transparent.
How we built it
We built CFT using HTML for structure, CSS for styling, JavaScript for functionality, and Firebase for authentication and database management. Firebase handles user authentication and stores tutor profile data securely in Firestore.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges while connecting Firebase with the frontend, handling authentication flow for different user roles, debugging JavaScript module issues, and structuring Firestore data properly. These challenges helped us understand real-world full-stack development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working authentication system using Firebase, implemented role-based user flow, designed a functional user interface, and connected frontend with a live database.
What we learned
We learned Firebase authentication, Firestore integration, frontend-backend connection, JavaScript debugging, and the importance of building simple and usable UI for real users.
What's next for Commission Free Tuition
We plan to add tutor verification for trust and safety, rating and review systems, smarter search and filtering, AI-based tutor matching, messaging between users, and a mobile application version.
