Project Story for CommentScope - AI Powered YouTube Comment Analysis

Inspiration

The inspiration for CommentScope came from the overwhelming amount of comments on YouTube videos that often go unnoticed. We wanted to create a tool that could help users quickly analyze and summarize these comments, providing valuable insights into audience sentiments and feedback.

What it does

CommentScope is a Chrome extension that allows users to scrape, analyze, and summarize comments from YouTube videos. By leveraging Chrome's built-in AI features, it categorizes comments into complaints, pain points, user requests, and other insights, making it easier for content creators and viewers to understand the audience's perspective.

How we built it

I built CommentScope using a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The extension interacts with the YouTube Data API to fetch comments and utilizes the prompt & summarizer built-in chrome APIs for analysis and summarization. The user interface is designed to be intuitive, allowing users to easily input video URLs and retrieve insights with just a few clicks.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was ensuring the AI models could effectively analyze and summarize comments accurately. I also faced difficulties in managing API rate limits and handling large volumes of comments without performance issues. Additionally, integrating the new AI features seamlessly into the Chrome extension posed some technical hurdles and required studying documents provided by the chrome team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of creating a user-friendly interface that simplifies the process of comment analysis. Successfully implementing AI features that provide meaningful insights from comments is another significant accomplishment. The positive feedback from early users has validated my efforts and encouraged me to continue improving the tool.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, I learned the importance of user feedback in shaping the features of the application. I also gained valuable experience in working with AI models and APIs, as well as the intricacies of Chrome extension development. This project has enhanced my skills in AI integration, chrome extension design & development.

What's next for CommentScope - AI Powered YouTube Comment Analysis

Looking ahead, I plan to enhance CommentScope by adding more advanced AI features, such as sentiment analysis and trend detection and see how gemini PRO can be utilized for long context benefits. I also aim to expand the extension's capabilities to support other video platforms beyond YouTube in future. Additionally, I will focus on improving performance and UI/UX based on feedback from our users.
