Inspiration
We saw an opportunity in creating a Chrome extension that could positively impact many users.
What it does
Allows the user to run commands from a WhatsApp conversation, the results of the commands will only be shown to the user that ran the command.
How we built it
We used Manifest Version 3 to build a Chrome extension, and we communicated with external APIs to create our commands.
Challenges we ran into
We faced a few challenges in inserting our own HTML/CSS onto the WhatsApp tab and successfully communicating with the Google API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We accomplished building the #add_to_calendar command, that communicates with the Google Calendar API to add a new event to our Google Calendar, with only the input of the message sent in WhatsApp.
What we learned
Build a Chrome extension, use Strategy Design Pattern, communicate to OAuth APIs.
What's next for Commands for WhatsApp
We plan to add more commands that allow us to communicate to other APIs.
