Inspiration
We wanted to put a spin on the prompt/theme "command line". Specifically, we wanted to explore what it actully means to command. What actually goes into getting an entity to do as you ask?
What it does
It's a platformer where you adventure with your companion - your very own line! What is a line? It's a sword, it's a shield, its a helicopter and a magic staff and so much more! Its anything you want it to be... and, more importantly, anything IT wants to be.The line has a personality and relationship with you that must be developed. It has abilities it likes and dislikes performing and abilities that it is more or less naturally inclined to be good at.
In turn based combat you select a skill you would like to request the line to perform, but the line's preferences and relationship with you (modeled by its affection and obedience) determine what it actually chooses to do. It might obey happily or begrudgingly. It might choose to do a skill it likes instead. It might even appear to do as you asked, but purposely fail to succeed. Lines can also take action out of combat, making requests, giving you coins and health potions they find (if they like you), and tripping you up if not.
A line with high affection, but low obedience will do as it pleases, but still have your best interests at heart. A line with high obedience, but low affection, might do as you ask... on paper at least, but look for sneaky ways to go behind your back. And it certainly won't go above and beyond.
