Inspiration

With the subject of ethics, we were inspired by ChatGPT’s AI function and Grammarly’s layout. We took inspiration from similar services but took a different approach as there aren't many services similar to the one we created.

What it does

Terms and Conditions tend to be unreasonably long, so we wanted to change that. TL;DR uses AI to simplify, highlight unethical phrasing, translate, and provide text-to-speech capabilities for legal documents like financial contracts and terms of service. It works as a website and a downloadable browser extension.

How we built it

We began our process through the fuzzy front end of problem-finding. We listed ethical problems and their impact on large groups of people. When we discovered our problem, we brainstormed some overall functions we wanted to include within our service. We formulated a survey in which we collected data on 32 users' thoughts on Terms and Conditions and AI. We also gained insightful research by conducting a competitor analysis. We then moved over to FigJam to plan the structure of the service through an Information Architecture diagram, keeping the responses we gained in mind. When we agreed upon the structure and features, we moved over to creating low-fidelity wireframes. After we were satisfied with the wireframes, we created our mid-fidelity wireframes and designed our logo in Figma. We also used AI with the permission of our mentor to create the fake Terms and Service example used in our prototype. When this was completed, we made prototypes and tested them by performing A/B testing and asking five users to test our prototypes. We took their input and used it to fuel the decision-making process to create our high-fidelity model and final product.

Challenges we ran into

We are fairly new to Figma and were trying to get the hang of the features as we went along. There were moments of frustration as we were trying to understand the animation and prototyping.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We are proud of the animations we included in the final product and the features we added that we believe would help many people.

What we learned

We learned about the full process of a case study and how to start with a problem and end with a fleshed-out solution. This was each of our first time going through the entire process as first-year students, and it was an enlightening experience.

What's next for TL;DR

We can fully flesh out our service so that all the features on each screen are functional and usable. It would be amazing if we could turn it into a real, functioning product. We hope to also turn our service into an app.
