Inspiration
In a survey, it was seen that a lot of queer people felt they didn't have access to many resources that helped them during the process of figuring out their identity as well as coming out. We wanted to be part of the solution by creating a website that would allow queer people to: Explore resources about their identity Read articles on coming out written by other queer people
What it does
It allows its target users - the people who are unsure about their sexuality and the LGBT+ community Ask questions anonymously Leave advice for others who are coming out Learn more about common LGBTQIA+ identities
How we built it
I built it primarily using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, I had to go through over 100 articles to find the most optimum articles to address the concerned topics. I also had to think through a lot about which primary topics we must address.
Challenges we ran into
I have always had a difficult time integrating two separate languages into one project. I also scraped the initial design of the website I spent hours making because I did not find it optimal and raced against time to complete the new format.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a wonderful UI after many tries. This was the first time I did a project with multiple languages without any help from a friend or mentor. I was successfully able to establish a communication portal where users can ask questions to the members of the community and post queries and articles.
What we learned
That the LGBT+ deserves a lot more support. How to establish a communication portal. How to use page clip and more fundamentals of HTML.
What's next for COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET
Additionally, we would like to expand the infographic page to include as many different sexualities and genders as possible, as we believe everyone deserves their identity to be celebrated and understood.
