ComicSphere

Inspiration

Reading comics is a lifestyle! No one likes being interrupted while they are middle of something exciting. Therefore, when you’re in an isolated place, reading comics gets surely more fun! Virtual Reality might be the isolated place we are looking for.

What it does

ComicSphere is a virtual place where people can read comics and manga in a 3D environment. Setting each file’s alignment as vertical or horizontal is possible. Both swiping from left to right and right to left options are available. ComicSphere does not forget where you left the book and continues from there when you come back.

How we built it

I built it by using React360. I considered the differences between and within comics and manga while adding some features. I used one free-access (Public domain or creative commons) of each type of book.

Challenges we ran into

• Learning React360 for the first time.
• Finding 360-degree background was challenging

What we learned

I learned that there are different file types of 360-degree images.

What's next for ComicSphere

It will be possible to creating accounts on ComicSphere and uploading comics and manga as PDF files to the accounts. I will add the music option so people will be able to listen to music while reading comics. ComicSphere also might be the starter of a world where people use new social networking sites in 3D environment.
