Inspiration
I was inspired to build this application when hearing about the women in my family not having access to a safe, gender segregated birth environment. Despite the Canadian government giving us at-home birth facilities that offer far better care, free of cost! However, due to a lack of information, they are not pursued, and women end up going through more traumatizing birth care.
What it does
This app allows expecting women to sign up and view current midwifes near them. They can filter by langauge and location as well as midwifery agencies. This makes meeting midwives a lot easier and makes the process more transparent.
How we built it
We used firebase to host data and react.js on our frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Navigating through legal requirements, often the internet is flooded with misinformation due to a lack of knowledge. However this was mitigated by simply going over government resources with proper seals of approval.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a streamlined approach where women can find midwives based on their preferences.
What we learned
How midwifery is a viable option for muslim women but due to cultural stigmas they are often not taking seriously.
What's next for ComfortCare
Expand into Ontario then other provinces.
