Inspiration
Since enrolling in the Fall 2024 Comets Love Meteorites Honors Lecture, I've been fighting for my life trying to convince others that rocks from space are indeed cool. Recognizing that way too many UTD students don't know what comets are, I built this website.
Also, when I only practiced my Frontend skills and my entire team got rejected from HackUTD, I knew I was building a website.
What it does
Cool looking crash course on comets. No backend :(.
How we built it
Built the website with React, HTML, and CSS.
Created the 3D model with Blender, and then animated with Spline.
Challenges we ran into
24 hours is brutal for a one person team. I really wanted to add more interactivity and backend capabilities, but before I could blink I ran out of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I really like the UI of the website, and I feel good about building an idea I'm passionate about (sadly this project doesn't really apply to any company challenges)
What we learned
How to use React, basic 3D modelling, how to deploy applications on GitHub, and a tiny bit of color theory.
What's next for Comets Love Meteorites
I want to fully flesh out the features I couldn't during this Hackathon, and eventually submit this project to my Comets Love Meteorites Professors once its finished. Ideally, it can serve as a cool website that UTD freshman occasionally use.
