Comet Budget

Comet Budget uses information from the user, such as monthly expenses and the total amount of the loan, to calculate and present the maximum monthly payment and timeframe for paying off their loan.

Inspiration

Knowing how long paying off a loan will take is vital, especially for current or recently graduated college students who likely have little to no income.

What it does

The user inputs their monthly expenses, income, and savings, as well as their loan's total amount and interest rate. Our website then calculates and displays the time, in years and months, it would take to pay off the user's loan using the maximum monthly payment amount.

How we built it

We built this using Wix and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some difficulties connecting a Nebula API endpoint to Wix. This made it challenging to display school information in the front end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Making a user-friendly website for students to use
  • Creating an application that can be helpful for people navigating college and budgeting.

What we learned

  • We learned how to adapt quickly when facing project issues.
  • We learned about working with APIs such as making HTTP requests, using fetch API, and so on.

What's next for Comet Budget

  • Monthly and weekly budget calculations for students
  • Creating four-year planners to calculate tuition, both total and per semester
