Inspiration

I was inspired to create a robust theme after exploring the HubSpot CMS in the developer sandbox. The builder is very compelling and allows developers to create very powerful modules and themes. I wanted to take on the challenge of creating these modules and learn to build on this amazing tool.

What it does

The theme has over 100 modules and 45 pre-designed sections. Colossal Theme allows non-developer users to drag and drop pre-designed elements with a lot of options to easily create what they are imagining.

How we built it

I built the theme by first researching which content types are common and are used often for different websites. After determining which modules to create, the building began. The primary goal of each module was to have a consistent structure, as well as simple settings. I wanted the user to be able to duplicate the module's look and feel easily and quickly, without a lot of setting changes. The theme was built upon webpack and the HubSpot CLI development tools. This process was very easy and worked well.

Challenges we ran into

Time. Once I began developing for HubSpot CMS - I found it pretty exciting to create modules. I look forward to continuing developing for HubSpot CMS and extending Colossal Theme in the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the variety of modules I was able to create, as well as the simplicity of the settings.

What we learned

I learned how to develop on HubSpot CMS with this project. I found it an enjoyable developer experience and look forward to building more themes and lots more modules.

What's next for Colossal Theme

Big things. I plan to continue to develop and polish Colossal Theme, as well as provide support to those who wish to use it. I am looking forward to see how Colossal Theme evolves, as well as providing support for others to love it as much as me.
