Color The Number Project
Inspiration
The concept of Color The Number emerged from a fascination with cognitive skill assessment and the subtle art of focused observation. I wanted to create a game that goes beyond traditional puzzles, focusing on how individuals process visual information and maintain concentration under mental pressure.
What It Does
Color The Number is an innovative cognitive challenge game that examines a player's attention to detail. The game presents a 7x7 grid filled with random numbers, challenging players to identify and color all instances of a specific target number. It's a pure test of:
- Visual scanning ability
- Number recognition
- Concentration skills
- Pattern identification
How We Built It
This project was a passion project, developed during my free time as a personal challenge. Born from a desire to create something unique and mentally stimulating, the game was built entirely through individual effort and creative problem-solving. The development process involved:
- Designing the core game mechanics
- Creating a responsive grid system
- Implementing number distribution algorithms
- Developing a scoring mechanism
Challenges We Ran Into
Developing Color The Number wasn't without its obstacles:
- Creating a truly random number distribution
- Ensuring the grid generation feels natural and challenging
- Designing an intuitive user interface
- Balancing the game's difficulty to make it engaging but not frustrating
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Successfully creating a unique cognitive challenge game
- Developing a clean, minimalist game design
- Creating an algorithm that generates fair and interesting grids
- Designing a simple yet compelling gameplay experience
- Have a look at the codebase
What We Learned
The project was an incredible learning journey:
- Deep dive into game design principles
- Advanced understanding of randomization techniques
- Insights into cognitive skill assessment
- Importance of user experience in puzzle design
- Iterative development and problem-solving
What's Next for Color The Number
The future looks exciting for this project:
- Implement multiple difficulty levels
- Add a global leaderboard
- Develop achievement tracking system
- Explore multiplayer capabilities
- Refine the core game mechanics based on user feedback
- Potentially expand to multiple platforms
Color The Number is more than just a game—it's a window into how we perceive and process information, challenging players to push the limits of their cognitive abilities.
