Inspiration
We were inspired to help people who are colorblind identify colors and other items that are the same color. The crayon drawing in our images captures some of the inspiration for addressing accessibility and allowing a person to identify colors while coloring.
What it does
Allows the user to capture an image with their camera app and analyze it, which provides the main color in the captured photo.
How I built it
We used Android Studio and the Palette API for our color identification.
Challenges I ran into
Attempting to create a webpage became less applicable than developing an app due to accessibility. We also wanted to add more colors to our spectrum and images of items that are the same color, but didn't reach these goals.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were able to install the app on a device, incorporate an API, allow the app to use the camera function and identify a small range of color values. Our ability to ask for help from the mentors and work together were also strong characteristics of our team.
What I learned
Diving deeper into Android Development, the Palette API, and looking into the possibility of using Algorithmia taught us much more about development practices and the process it takes to have a completed project.
What's next for ColorMe
User interface, specificity and scope of identifiable colors, and adding images of the same color are items we'd like to improve on for this project.
