Inspiration
Working at the Colorado River Alliance has changed the way I see Austin. Teaching kids about water conservation made the issue personal—not abstract. Their questions, their excitement, and the moments when something “clicks” for them inspired me to create this project. I wanted an ad that captured why protecting our water matters now and for the future generation that’s literally sitting in front of me every day.
How we built it
I started by defining the core message: Austin’s water future depends on what we do today. From there, I wrote the script, built a visual arc, and used AI image generation to create consistent environmental and atmospheric scenes. I layered in motion, text, and sound design to keep the tone focused and urgent. Every decision was centered on clarity: show the stakes, show the beauty of the river, and show the cost of ignoring it.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was balancing creativity with accuracy. I didn’t want the AI visuals to misrepresent the Colorado River or exaggerate environmental risks. Ensuring the tone stayed realistic while still feeling cinematic took iteration. Another challenge was turning a complex issue—water scarcity, drought cycles, and community responsibility—into a simple message that kids, adults, and non-experts could all connect with.
What we learned
This project pushed me to understand how storytelling, visuals, and message framing can shift behavior around sustainability. I learned how to use AI tools responsibly, how to blend educational content with emotional resonance, and how to translate real environmental data into something people can feel—not just read.
