Inspiration
Abhi's brother has mild deuteranopia which led us to consider some possibilities to alleviate problems from such conditions.
What it does
This chrome extension accesses the colors on the screen and then changes them to stand out from the colors near it and brightens or darkens certain shades to achieve an effect to help color-blind people tell the difference between colors.
How we built it
We built it using Javascript, CSS, and HTML.
Challenges we ran into
Along the way, while building this, there was difficulty in finding the differences needed to make an effect on the colors to make them stand apart, as well as coding difficulties in combining code. Finding an equation to properly account for specific colors on the RGB spectrum to ensure some colors don't change out of proportion. Finally, there was also a problem with the Chrome extension because Chrome had a content security policy that made it necessary to remove all the Python code from our project and start that over again.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That we were able to work effectively work together despite the fact that both of us don't know the same programming languages.
What we learned
We learned how to work better under a time limit and how to learn new coding languages, upload new libraries and make a chrome extension to finish and run this project effectively.
What's next for Color un-blinder
Personalization. Different people see differently and have trouble with different types of color blindness, such as red-green or blue-purple color blindness. We hope to make this more accessible by adding different types of features, such as the ability to take a quiz that will tailor the color-changing formula based on what the user inputs that they have trouble seeing.
