Inspiration

“Color of My Garden” was inspired by the emotional intensity and symbolic depth of Frida Kahlo’s paintings. When I first encountered her work, I wondered why her art carried such powerful, visceral energy. As I learned more about her life—her pain, resilience, love, and identity—I felt compelled to reinterpret her inner world through a new technological lens. I wanted to explore whether AI could truly translate the complexity of her emotions, her self-reflection, and the surreal landscapes of her mind.

What it does

The film reimagines Frida’s personal journey as a 25-minute AI-generated monologue, blending realism and surreal imagery to illustrate her emotional landscape. Using AI tools for ideation, scriptwriting, visual generation, sound design, and editing, the film reconstructs the defining moments of her life—from childhood illness to the bus accident, from artistic awakening to love and heartbreak—entirely from her point of view. It becomes an immersive visual diary where flowers never wither, colors feel alive, and Frida’s voice guides the audience through her internal garden.

How we built it

The entire film was created in just one week—written, directed, produced, and edited by a single creator.

Script & Narrative: Written based on Frida’s life events, blending factual inspiration with poetic interpretation.

Visuals: Generated with AI models such as VEO 3, Midjourney, Google Image FX, and Kling to capture her surreal yet intimate world.

Voice & Sound: Produced with ElevenLabs and sound-design tools to build a cohesive emotional tone.

Editing & Composition: Assembled and polished with AI-assisted editing tools and video enhancement models like Topaz.

Every element—from concept to final cut—was designed to feel like stepping into the world as Frida might have seen it.

Challenges we ran into

Capturing emotional truth with AI: Recreating Frida’s nuanced expressions and emotional depth was a constant challenge. AI can generate images, but conveying her lived pain and resilience required iterative refinement.

Consistency across scenes: Maintaining stable character likeness, style continuity, and narrative flow across hundreds of AI-generated shots demanded extensive prompt engineering and visual curation.

Time constraint: Completing an entire 25-minute film alone in one week required an intense workflow and efficient coordination between multiple AI tools.

Balancing realism and surrealism: Finding the right artistic tone—neither too literal nor too abstract—was key to honoring her artistic identity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully completing a full-length AI-driven short film as a solo creator within one week.

Winning eight international awards across global film festivals, including Venice AI Film Awards, AI International Film Festival, Cannes World Film Festival, and others.

Demonstrating that AI can be used not just for experimentation, but for serious, emotionally grounded storytelling.

Creating a film that resonates with both art audiences and technology-driven communities.

What we learned

AI can be a powerful emotional storyteller when guided with intention and human interpretation.

The creative process shifts from producing every frame manually to orchestrating hundreds of micro-decisions between tools, prompts, and narrative flow.

Visual storytelling with AI requires as much artistic judgment as traditional filmmaking—if not more—because the director becomes both curator and creator.

Most importantly, we learned that human intuition is still at the heart of AI filmmaking. Technology is the brush; the artist still paints.

What's next for Color of my garden

Expanding the project into a potential gallery installation combining video, interactive AI art, and a modern reinterpretation of Frida’s visual motifs.

Exploring a longer director’s cut incorporating additional monologue scenes and deeper symbolic sequences.

Developing a making-of documentary to share the workflow, process, and challenges of AI filmmaking for future creators.

Bringing the film to more international festivals, educational events, and AI cinema showcases to continue the conversation about AI as a creative partner in storytelling.
