Inspiration
We were inspired by the classic Flow Free puzzle game and the theme of connections. We wanted to create a fun and challenging game that tests logical thinking and precision while providing a fun and challenging experience to the user.
What it does
Color Link is a puzzle game where players attempt to connect colored dots and fill in the grid while not intersecting lines. Color Link challenges the player's mind and gives them a fun and interactive experience to train their mind and have fun.
How we built it
We built the game using Python, Pygame, and the random library to generating random grids and implement path drawing mechanics. We focused on the user interactions, efficient graphics and intuitive gameplay.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was handling line intersections properly, ensuring that only the overlapping segments were erased instead of entire paths. Another difficulty we ran into was making the board reset to its original state when the user makes a mistake.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to make a game in the short time given as this was our first time ever competing in a hackathon. Additionally, we are proud of how we were able to use a simple graphics library, pygame, to make an interactive and engaging game for the user.
What we learned
We learned that proper time management is very important for time coding competitions and we learned that drawing out our ideas and making a proper schedule of how we want to use our time is very helpful.
What's next for Color Link
Our next goal for color link is to make an algorithm that is capable of generating it's own solvable boards and making a time trial game where players aim to solve as many boards as they can in a limited time and their score will be uploaded to a public leaderboard.
