Inspiration
ColorHop was inspired by the core idea of Color Switch link : matching colors as the main survival rule. We wanted to take that simple mechanic and reinterpret it through jumping. By combining fast-paced vertical movement with color-based decision-making, we aimed to build a clean and intuitive game inside Horizon Worlds.
What it does
ColorHop is a “jump and survive” experience. Players fall through a cosmic pit, chase the color that keeps them alive, and try to hit the matching JumpPad before dropping further.
How we built it
We divided development into two roles: designer and developer. The design side handled worldbuilding, asset creation, visual identity, and overall game flow. The development side implemented the logic that makes everything work, including color detection, jump mechanics, and player interactions.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was creating systems that behave uniquely for each player ID. With limited multiplayer-platform background, handling ownership and player-specific items required research and iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a clean and satisfying core game loop and a functioning leaderboard that supports competitive play. Thanks to the Horizon Worlds public asset library, we were able to prototype much faster, iterate on ideas quickly, and focus our time on refining the core mechanics and player experience.
What we learned
We learned how to work effectively with the Worlds Desktop Editor, explored its capabilities and limits.
What's next for Color Hop
We plan to include monetization paths, UI improvements, more complex JumpPad behaviors, and consumable or durable items such as power-ups and cosmetics to enrich the experience.
