💡 Inspiration

We love games that are super simple to play but still hard to master. Color Catch Reflexes was born from that idea — a minimalist reflex challenge that anyone can play, but few can truly conquer. We wanted to see how much fun and polish we could pack into a single AI-generated prompt, and this was our perfect chance to find out.

🎮 What it does

Color Catch Reflexes is a fast-paced reflex game built with one single Bolt.new prompt.

  • The screen changes colors rapidly.

  • Your goal: Tap or click only when the background turns red.

  • React too early or too late and it’s game over.

  • Each round gets faster, testing your focus and reaction time.

It’s super lightweight, responsive, and works great on mobile and desktop.

🛠️ How we built it

We used Bolt.new and created the game in just one prompt, without touching the code manually.

Tech stack:

  • ReactJS (auto-generated by Bolt)

  • Deployed via Netlify for instant access

Everything was generated by AI, including the game logic, UI, sound effect and responsiveness.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

One-Shot Competition (Best fun project built with only a single prompt) — this was the real constraint we embraced.

  • Designing a game that’s actually fun and responsive within a single AI prompt

  • Making the color detection logic and timing precise and fair

  • Ensuring the game feels fast and lightweight even without any external libraries

  • Keeping it mobile-friendly and visually readable without tweaking the output

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully working game using only one AI prompt

  • Deployed and playable in less than an hour

  • No manual code edits or fixes required

  • Responsive on all devices with smooth animations and simple visuals

  • The core game loop is addictive and well-balanced for casual play

📚 What we learned

  • AI can absolutely generate playable, fun, and polished games with the right prompt

  • Constraints breed creativity — having just one prompt made us focus on gameplay more than features

  • The power of clear, intentional prompt writing when using tools like Bolt.new

  • Deploying and showcasing a project doesn’t need to be complex

🚀 What's next for Color Catch Reflexes

We’d love to add a few more features now that the one-shot challenge is over:

  • Leaderboard (with Supabase)

  • Colorblind mode for accessibility

  • Theme and speed customizations (easy, medium, hard)

  • Deploy as a progressive web app for mobile users

  • Possibly integrate with haptics or sounds for deeper immersion

This project reminded us how powerful fast prototyping can be — and how fun it is to make something simple that just works.
