Inspiration

When we noticed how wildly popular physical color-by-numbers books still are, we turned it into a Friday-afternoon experiment in our tiny studio: could we bring that calm, “just one more section” feeling into virtual reality?

What it does

Color-A-Cube became a free mixed-reality voxel coloring game where players paint beautiful 3D models, backed by crisp clicks, satisfying pops, and sparkly effects that make every filled cube feel like a tiny victory.

How we built it

After launching in Early Access in December 2024, we kept iterating in public: listening closely, shipping improvements, and growing a loyal community. Crossover events with games like Dave the Diver, Dead Cells, and Station to Station helped us reach new players and kept the content pipeline fresh.

Challenges we ran into

Quest controllers already feel great, accurate tracking and haptics add that “tactile tremble” while painting. We explored hand tracking too (since platforms are pushing it hard), but it still lacks precision, and without haptics, the magic fades. For voxel coloring, the dream input is something that feels like a real tool in your hand… which is why the Logitech MX Ink XR Stylus is so exciting. It could be the most natural, satisfying way to color cubes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We turned a casual prototype into a shipped Early Access title, built a genuinely loyal community, and proved that “relaxing” can be a compelling game loop, especially when the feedback feels great and the content keeps coming.

What we learned

Satisfying experiences live or die on feel: tiny details like audio, haptics, and responsiveness matter as much as visuals. We also learned that consistent updates and genuine community feedback create momentum you can’t fake.

What's next for Color-A-Cube

We’re continuing monthly content drops with a mix of free updates and paid DLC, and we’re always hunting for playful collaborations, even with non-gaming brands. Next up: pushing the “painting feel” even further with stylus support.
