About the Project

Inspiration

Our project was inspired by the urgent need to address the pressing issues of rising sea levels, climate change, and overpopulation. We wanted to explore innovative solutions that could provide sustainable living options in coastal areas while minimizing environmental impact. The concept of floating cities emerged as a practical approach to tackle these challenges.

What We Learned

Throughout the project, we gained valuable insights into various fields:

  • Data Analysis: We learned how to analyze environmental data, such as water currents and geological properties, to inform our decision-making.
  • AI and Machine Learning: We deepened our understanding of how AI models can be used to assess location suitability based on multiple parameters.
  • Collaboration: Working as a team highlighted the importance of collaboration, communication, and leveraging each team member's strengths.

How We Built Our Project

  1. Data Gathering: We collected environmental data from sources like the HYCOM dataset and Google Earth Engine.
  2. Model Development: We developed an AI model to analyze the collected data, focusing on factors such as:
    • Water currents at various depths
    • Topological and geological characteristics
    • Accessibility of potential locations
  3. Report Generation: The model outputs a detailed report in JSON format, which we formatted into a visually appealing PDF document for presentation.

Challenges Faced

  • Data Complexity: One of the major challenges was dealing with complex datasets and ensuring we extracted relevant information accurately.
  • Model Optimization: Fine-tuning our AI model to improve its predictive accuracy required significant time and effort.
  • Time Constraints: With a tight deadline, we had to manage our time effectively, balancing the different stages of the project.

Overall, this project has been an enriching experience, allowing us to explore creative solutions to real-world problems while enhancing our technical skills and teamwork.
