Inspiration

Two of our team members are from some of the most popular tourist destinations around the world: Annie is from the Seychelles and Valentina is from Spain. We have seen first-hand just how overtourism affects the economy and environment of our home countries and decided to create a project based on mitigating overtourism.

What it does

Collie is a travel buddy than not only aids in organising your group trip (selecting time and destination, tracking expenses, optimising number of transfers required to settle up - all in one place!) but also prioritises underrated places to visit in an attempt to encourage tourists to spread out from hotspots. Recommendations update dynamically based on the current group consensus.

How we built it

Combination of the Overpass and Nominatim APIs, python (FastAPI), HTML, Javascript, CSS, and a custom algorithm for recommendation generation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first hackathon project, our first API, and our first website! We also like that the recommendations generated are generated live, and are real places.
