We were inspired by seeing how difficult and how many google searches are required to get information about colleges and even just how frustrating it can be. That's why we stepped in and put all that information in one place.
You can ask alexa to open collegeLookup and ask about any college and about its acceptance rate, locations, or any pertinent information you may want to know and alexa will respond with a statistic or qualitative description detailing the answer to your question
First we created a 15 column grid with tons of information we got from numerous websites and then went on to the amazon console to code alexa to utilize this grid when giving responses.
Web scraping was rather difficult especially when pages didn't display all college statistics in one page. Also the alexa skill was fairly challenging due to how we have never worked with it before.
We're proud that we were able to make such a useful grid with such immense amounts of data.
We learned a lot about data wrangling and python scripting, and especially about aws related techniques
