📚 Inspiration The inspiration for College TruthWall came from seeing how students struggle to express themselves honestly on campus. Traditional feedback systems feel rigid and intimidating, while big social platforms aren’t built for college-specific realities. I wanted a safe, anonymous space where students could speak freely — vent about assignments, confess secrets, share hacks, or spotlight campus issues that often stay hidden.
✨ What it does College TruthWall is a digital notice board for students to anonymously post stories, questions, confessions, or feedback. Key features: anonymous posting with college verification, tag-based filtering (e.g. #hostelLife, #examStress), community upvotes/downvotes for moderation, anonymous comments and reactions, and a robust reporting system for inappropriate content.
🛠️ How we built it Full-stack web app:
Frontend: React + TailwindCSS
Backend: Node.js + Express (routes, authentication, moderation)
Database: MongoDB (flexible storage)
Authentication: Firebase Auth (college email verification while keeping users anonymous)
Hosting: Netlify (frontend), Render (backend)
🚩 Challenges we ran into Balancing anonymity with accountability was tricky — verifying students without storing personal data. Moderation was another hurdle: preventing abuse while keeping the platform open and safe. The UI needed multiple redesigns to feel intuitive and friendly for anonymous posting.
