Inspiration

A few days ago, a friend of ours who majors in computer science shared their short film with us. If we weren’t friends with them, we wouldn’t have been able to see it. It’s difficult to access projects such as short films within a college setting especially among people that major in the arts. Also, we noticed that people tend to stick within their majors, thus being unaware of what people from outside majors (e.g. art majors) are doing. Throughout the brainstorm process, we kept thinking “what do film major students do?”, thus creating a platform where creatives (both art and non-art majors) are able to showcase their works would help mitigate this curiosity.

What it does

You're able to have access and view/browse short films, songs, writings, art, and photography, allowing you to dive into people's creative side that they've always wanted to express.

How we built it

We used different programming languages such as HTML and CSS to construct the visuals of the website, and used CSS with PHP and MySQL to construct a database.

Challenges we ran into

Being able to implement the programming languages we used for our project, was a bit of a learning curve. As we are all new to working with HTML and CSS, we would encounter issues such as not being able to implement our ideas in a way that did not result in errors within our code. Also, we had major issues in connecting the database to the domain, but we realized down the road that our implementation of doing this was not correct.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As our first Hackathon, we feel accomplished that we've created a site that can navigate through links and show up on the Web, and we know with more time we would have a lot to offer.

What we learned

Making a website with databases is difficult on the first try. Having perseverance and having a drive to learn can go a long way even if issues may arise.

What's next for CCreatorWorks

We hope to come into contact with students that are interested in uploading their works, and we'll have more features such as creating a working login/signup feature so users can upload their works, commenting sections for interaction, and the ability to post works anonymously for feedback without worrying about cyberbullying.
