Inspiration

We wanted to create a unique and practical website that fits the theme of education and finance. These two topics naturally came together in a single project idea. As students preparing for university ourselves, we were inspired to build something that could genuinely help others like us.

What it does

College Cost Planner is an interactive financial planning tool designed to help families estimate the savings required for their children’s higher education. It requires personalized inputs like income, savings, child age, and school preferences. The tool projects future college costs, tracks progress, and offers actionable insights. The offered resultant empowers parents to make informed, confident decisions about their children’s academic future.

Even though none of our group members had ever participated in a hackathon or learned how to build a website with HTML, we were able to complete the project and successfully submit it.

What we learned

We learned how to collaborate using VSCode, manage code with GitHub, and build features with the help of ChatGPT. We also realized how challenging it is to come up with a good, original idea that hasn’t already been implemented.
